Assignment #1 Different kinds of smarts-Multiple intelligences

What used to be called a talent is now recognized as intelligent. With Gardner’s theory on multiple intelligence more students are able to be successful in the classroom. The intelligence teach us, educators, about the different ways people express their knowledge. There are seven different “smarts”. They are verbal-linguistic, mathematical-logical, visual-spatial, bodily kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalist. The way to reach all the different intelligence in a diverse classroom is to allow for different activities in a task. As well as, while teaching have different methods to introduce the new information. Students need to get hooked to the lesson and then can acquire information. Therefore, by using different methods to introduce a topic or at the beginning of a lesson, all students are engaged and then they can properly learn.

Assignment #1 Reader Response

To identify the desired results, I looked at the standards given for reading informational texts. Based on the standards I knew what the students have to come out with so I was able to develop essential questions and what the students will have to know in order to call the knowledge their own. For example, standard RI 6.6 is to determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text and explain how it is conveyed in a text. Therefore, the desired goal is to e xplain how an author’s point of view is conveyed in informational text. To be able to explain an author’s point of view students will have to understand that words such as I, you or me show point of view. Then , they can answer the question of what information do you see to support the view of the author? Knowledge and skills needed in school, college and the workforce are the basics so that they can be expounded upon into deeper knowledge. Therefore, by teaching students the fundamentals, which standards are based off they...

Assignment #3: Asking questions to develop higher order thinking skills

Some major takeaways from this article is that there are programs, technology based, that do not leave the brain, but rather use the brain. SMILE is a phenomenal development that engages students and helps them think critically while giving students digital skills and “hands-on, minds-on learning”. Besides being a great program for students to use it is also great for teachers. Teachers can use the program to ask student question as well as review their work, such as seeing the questions their students post. I think it is a wonderful program to incorporate into classrooms. However, particularly in the school that I currently work in they believe that technology is a distraction to life and therefore to not attempt at promoting it since they do not want the students from a young age becoming attached to it. I think SMILE is a great tool for all ages as soon as they can read and write in their own. To implement it say to a second grade class (as that is what I am teaching) at a comfort...
